We are putting our own holiday twist on one of the cocktail world’s favorite concoctions. The “Stone Wall” is a common remedy for anything that ails you. Aka the “Stone Fence,” this drink was quite simple in its origin: rum and hard cider.
During the Revolutionary War, the infamous Green Mountain Boys and their leader, Ethan Allen, purportedly drank this mixture prior to the legendary taking of Fort Ticonderoga. Even Buffalo Bill, much later, was a fan. With the westward expansion the drink was to evolve again; during the Civil War period, it came to be made with corn whiskey and apple cider. Today, we add a new spin by substituting another autumnal fruit, the red pear.
2 oz Savannah Spirits Amber Rum
1 oz Red Pear Juice
.5 oz Fresh Squeezed Lime Juice
3 oz Ginger Beer
3 Slices of Red Pear
In a cocktail shaker, add the Savannah Spirits Amber Rum, pear, and lime juice. Fill the shaker with ice and shake well. Strain into an ice-filled rocks glass and top with the ginger beer. Garnish with red pears.
