Adding a twist to the traditional Wassail – our Mulled Rum Punch honors a medieval English drinking ritual “intended to ensure a good cider apple harvest the following year.” Drunk from a ‘wassailing bowl’ at social gatherings, villagers would sing and drink to the health of the cider apple trees and to scare away evil spirits.

Today, this classic favorite will keep you toasty and relaxed throughout these “chilly” Southern evenings. Served around the world, this Mulled Rum Punch can be hot or cold (we suggest hot), and reminds us that all great things are even better shared.

4 Quarts Apple Cider
1/2 C Brown Sugar Firmly Packed
24 Whole Cloves
16 Whole Allspice
8 Cinnamon Sticks
2 Whole Nutmegs, Cracked
1-2 Cups Savannah Spirits Amber Rum
Lemon Peel

In saucepan, combine apple cider, brown sugar, cloves, allspice, cinnamon sticks, and nutmeg. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes. Remove from heat, cool, then refrigerate for several hours. To serve, strain into punch bowl, reheat, stir in rum, and garnish with lemon peel. Makes 24 servings.
